STORIES & PROJECTS

EMDR Walk in the Park

Get ready to lace up your sneakers and join us for the 3rd Annual EMDR Walk in the Park! This year’s walk will take place during the entire month of June.

Why a Walk in the Park?

The EMDR Walk in the Park celebrates both the legacy of Dr. Francine Shapiro and the power of EMDR therapy. In 1987, Dr. Shapiro took a historic walk in Los Gatos, California, that would lay the foundation for the trauma treatment now known as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. As she walked through the park, she noticed that by moving her eyes back and forth, disturbing memories began to lose their emotional charge. This serendipitous discovery marked the beginning of a therapy that has since helped countless individuals heal from trauma. By participating in this event, you are not only honoring Dr. Shapiro’s groundbreaking work but also raising awareness for EMDR therapy and its ability to transform lives.

How it works:

This year’s walk is fully virtual, so no matter where you are in the world, you can join us! Whether you’re walking through your neighborhood, at the gym, or enjoying a local park, you can participate from anywhere. There’s no limit to how many people can join us this year, and we’re aiming to bring together people from all corners of the globe.

Choose to walk individually or with a team of friends, family, or coworkers. Challenge each other to see who can log the greatest number of steps!

Our goal is to reach 300,000 steps for EMDR therapy between June 1 and June 30, 2025!

All walk registrants will receive a special commemorative t-shirt to celebrate the event.

Raise Funds for Your Participation

By signing up, you’ll be supporting Trauma Recovery/HAP in our mission to increase the capacity for effective treatment of psychological trauma, especially in underserved communities.

You can take it a step further and create an individual or team fundraising page where you ask your network to support your participation in the EMDR Walk in the Park with a donation. The funds raised will go directly to increasing access to EMDR therapy and helping more people on their healing journeys. Let’s come together to make a difference!
