Trauma Healing for Students Fleeing Ukraine
We are proud to highlight the efforts of Trauma Recovery/HAP Board Member, Dr. Sushma Mehrotra and her colleagues at EMDR India to help Indian students returning from Ukraine access trauma treatment. As many international students studying in Ukraine were forced to flee the conflict, there is concern for their mental health now that they are home safely. Students who were exposed to the war and conflict, feared for their safety, and struggled with access to food and water may find themselves experiencing trauma symptoms like irregular sleep, flashbacks, nightmares, and anxiety.
Dr. Mehrotra is the Co-Founder, President of EMDR Asia and the Director of Trauma Recovery, Asia.

Trauma Recovery/HAP has a long history of supporting the growth of EMDR therapy throughout India and Asia. Since 1998, we have supported both financially and administratively the training of over 300 mental health professionals in EMDR therapy in Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Varanasi and other parts of India. In addition to training in EMDR, Trauma Recovery/HAP has sponsored several humanitarian disaster responses bringing trauma healing to thousands of individuals, including children, affected by natural disasters, such as the 2001 Bhuj earthquake, the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, the 2014 Kashmir flooding and the 2015 earthquake in Nepal.
Our support of EMDR Asia and EMDR India continues today in the hopes that in the near future, these associations will be organized, locally sustained bodies, conducting trainings and workshops throughout Asia, to share knowledge and skills among mental health professionals and to undertake humanitarian activities to address psychological trauma.
