TRAINING
Answers to Training Questions
Employment with a non-profit or public sector organization
- EMDR Basic Training is available to clinicians who work for a non-profit or public sector organization in a clinical mental health capacity. Clinicians working with underserved communities are also eligible to complete their EMDR training through Trauma Recovery/HAP.
EMDR training is also available to students enrolled in a Master’s or Doctorate level program in the mental health field (Social Work, Counseling, Marriage Family Therapy, Psychology, Psychiatry, Psychiatric Nursing – first year students not eligible). During registration, students are asked for the name and email address of their supervisor. The supervisor will receive an email request from Trauma Recovery to approve participation, prior to admission to the training.
- Eligible clinicians can attend any event posted on the HAP training schedule that offers open seats.
- Training participants will be asked to provide verification of employment.
If you do not work for a non-profit or public sector agency, please view the EMDRIA Calendar of Training Events.
We schedule trainings when a non-profit agency submits an inquiry to us through our website www.emdrhap.org.
We do not contact the agencies for EMDR trainings, they contact us, so until an agency contacts us, we do not know when or where any upcoming trainings will be scheduled.
To find a training in a convenient training near you, check our training schedule regularly. The schedule is searchable by date and state.
If your agency is interested in hosting a training, please have them visit our website and complete a host application.
FYI: Some trainings are open to all, some are closed to just agency participants. If you find one and there are no seats available, contact registration@emdrhap.org to be added to a wait list.
For Weekend I EMDR Training:
Prior to your training, it is required that you read the first eight chapters of Francine Shapiro’s book: “Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing: Basic Principles, Protocols, and Procedures, 3rd Edition”. It is recommended that you read Francine Shapiro’s book “Getting Past Your Past”.
For Weekend II EMDR Training:
Prior to your EMDR training, it is required that you review chapters 2-8 and read chapters 9, 10 and 11 of Francine Shapiro’s book: “Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing: Basic Principles, Protocols, and Procedures, 3rd Edition”.
The books are available at any major online bookstore. All other Trauma Recovery/HAP resources are available through the Trauma Recovery/HAP Product Store.
Basic EMDR Therapy training is offered at approximately half the price of many privately offered training options. The price for each of the two required 3-day weekend training components is $495, for a total fee of $990. The training fee does not include case consultation, but non-profit employees can often get free consultation from consultants within their own agency, or free or low cost consultation from independent consultants listed on the Trauma Recovery/HAP Consultant Directory.
Some trainings are open to all, some are closed to just agency participants. If you find one and there are no seats available, contact registration@emdrhap.org to be added to a wait list.
Starting January 2012, Trauma Recovery/HAP ID numbers have been included on the “Confirmation Email” you received when you registered for a training.
If you never got a Trainee ID Number, or if you have forgotten your Trainee ID Number click here to get your Trainee ID Number.
All participants who attended an agency’s Part I will receive an email when they have scheduled a Part II.
Records of Completion will be emailed to all participants of an EMDR Part II training after their attendance at the Part II training has been confirmed, payment has been received, and all 10 hours of consultation have been completed.
If a host agency applies for CEUs directly, participants will need to contact the agency representative for details about obtaining CEUs.
If a host agency requests CEUs be arranged through Trauma Recovery/HAP, each qualified participant will be assigned a unique CEU keycode, which will be emailed to participants after attendance and registration payment has been confirmed. This keycode will be used at www.ce-classes.com to enter the website and purchase the CEUs for the training/workshop the participant attended.
As a requirement of your EMDR Basic Training, you are required to complete 10 hours of consultation. You need to use a Trauma Recovery/HAP Consultant for these hours. All Trauma Recovery/HAP Consultants are EMDRIA Approved Consultants who have gone through additional training with Trauma Recovery/HAP in our training model and protocols and have on-going training with the most recent training materials. The training staff at your training are all Trauma Recovery/HAP Consultants and consultation can often be arranged during the training. You can also find an approved consultant on the Trauma Recovery/HAP Consultant Directory. Training fees do not include case consultation. Consultation fees are generally $25-$50 per hour, for group consultation, paid directly to your consultant. Each participant needs to arrange for the consultations on his/her own. Consultation completed with a consultant that is not on the Trauma Recovery/HAP Consultant Directory will not be accepted toward your EMDR Basic Training consultation requirement.
Trauma Recovery/HAP recommends that participants complete between 4 and 6 hours of consultations between the Weekend 1 and Weekend 2 training events.
As you complete consultation hours, your consultant will enter them into the Trauma Recovery/HAP system. To see how many hours you have completed, and with whom, click here to see your completed consultation hours.
Please direct all questions about EMDRIA Certification in EMDR to EMDR International Association.
Trauma Recovery, EMDR Humanitarian Assistance Programs is an EMDRIA Approved Provider. As such all EMDR related trainings are approved through EMDRIA. EMDRIA credits available for each training are shown on the training’s registration page.

Cancellation Regarding Inclement Weather:
It is the policy of Trauma Recovery/HAP that trainings will go ahead during bad weather, unless Trauma Recovery/HAP decides the severity of conditions warrant canceling and/or municipal or state government offices are closed.
Registrants should make every reasonable effort to get to the training. If for some reason they are unable to make it to the training (e.g. their flight is cancelled), they would be required to provide proof of this and an exception could be made.
In the event that Trauma Recovery/HAP is forced to cancel the training (or if a host agency makes the decision to cancel a training), Trauma Recovery/HAP will email registrants to announce this.
If the training is cancelled due to inclement weather, it will be rescheduled and registrants will be transferred to the new date. Any registrants who are unable to make the new date will receive a full refund.
How to host a training will answer many of your questions.
Please fill out the Host Application. It will in no way obligate you, but it helps to have this information available ahead of time for when someone from the Training Team contacts you to go over your questions about hosting an EMDR training.
