Trauma Recovery/HAP Is Turning 30!

Join us as we celebrate our visionary founder, rich history and continuous efforts to use EMDR therapy to bring hope and healing to communities impacted by trauma across the globe.

The Shapiro Effect

Dr. Francine Shapiro developed Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy to treat those suffering from trauma. Her revolutionary work and founding of Trauma Recovery/HAP created a momentous ripple effect. Today, her profound influence is still felt, as our trained clinicians can provide more and more life-changing EMDR services to communities reeling from manmade or natural disasters.

Overcoming Trauma Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow — By the Numbers

Dr. Shapiro’s passion resonates within the fabric of our organization and continues to be a source of motivation and inspiration. We’re incredibly proud of her enduring legacy and our far-reaching impact.

In the Spotlight

Throughout the year, we’ll spotlight the people, programs and services that illuminate who we are, how we got here and what lies ahead.

Voices of Hope

Thousands of individuals have played an instrumental role in the success and growth of Trauma Recovery/HAP. Watch below as a few of them share their personal journeys. Check back often as we’ll continue to add more throughout the year.

A Word of Gratitude

Volunteers are the heart and intelligence of the Trauma Recovery/HAP community. As we celebrate our organization’s milestone, we must also celebrate their significant and unwavering efforts to help us treat trauma. We’re incredibly grateful for this tireless force of trained clinicians, faculty members, facilitators, board members and Trauma Recovery Network® coordinators, consultants, members and more.

EMDR therapy helps you process things…and then put those thoughts back away, not to forget them but to keep them somewhere where they can no longer hurt you.

That’s the hope. To be able to allow EMDR worldwide where it’s needed and perhaps to make some inroads in bringing peace together.

I feel passionate about training more clinicians in this amazingly transformative therapy…I can only help so many clients in my career and being able to teach others to do EMDR extends my reach of positive change in the world.

Changing the memories that form the way we see ourselves also changes the way we view others. Therefore, our relationships, job performance, what we are willing to do or are able to resist, all move in a positive direction.

EMDR has not only saved my life – but for the first time in over 60 years, I feel fully alive – able to truly enjoy life and handle its most difficult trials with calm and confidence.

There is no comparison to the EMDR training provided by Trauma Recovery. The trainers, facilitators and consultants are experts in EMDR technique, but equally invested in teaching client care.

We believe that EMDR…allows the person undergoing treatment to more effectively process and incorporate traumatic memories into general association networks in the brain.

Making this training accessible to me as a student through a scholarship allowed me to grow, learn, and gain access to services in a community health setting in a way I wouldn’t have been able to afford on my own.
